PEN15


I’m six months into being 30 and it’s just as fabulous as I thought it would be. Things that didn’t mean as much to me in my 20’s... I find myself cherishing more and more every day.

Recently … a lifelong friend got married. A middle school bestie is going through the process of IVF for her first child. My other best friend is moving to another state with her husband. Another friend is having her second child. It’s a been a big year and it’s not even over.

A show called PEN15 came out and it’s a comedy series about middle school in 2000. Including Nelly, gel pens, roller backpacks, and friendship necklaces. Of course, I had to watch this because I was in 7th grade in 2000. This was my life. Not only my life but what life was like with my close friends, who I all met in 7th grade. Grateful that I am still sharing life memories with these people makes me realize how even more special it is that we went from passing notes over our middle school crush to sending updates on fertility, job promotions, and life aspirations.

Reliving my middle school days through PEN15 made me realize how much I rely on my girlfriends to get me through the day, month, and year. Friends that grow together through all the seasons are the ones who are there for life. The good seasons and the bad seasons. Even that weird phase where we all had bangs. Yikes. Thank god that’s over.

From braces, to starting to drive, to graduating High School and entering College. Turning 21 and understanding that 21 shots on your birthday… isn’t the greatest idea. Celebrating college graduation, first jobs, engagements, weddings, and more birthdays. We’ve loved each other through breakups, bad days at work, disagreements on life choices, and distance.

It’s amazing to see how in 7th grade we were just trying to get through school and puberty. Now we're conquering major things in life. We all thought we would be married by 25 with a family and that would be living our best lives. Here we are at 30, some married, some with kids, and guess what? We are living our best lives with amazing friends right by our side. Answering those 2am texts when you feel like you're failing at life. Sending flowers since you can’t be there in person on those big days that need a little extra. Even down to just saying it will be okay. Because it will be.

I am lucky. Why? Because some people don’t have this. Some people wish they had this. There are some things that I take for granted. Why? Because it’s been 18 years. It’s nice to be reminded of just how special my friendships are. How unique my fun light-hearted besties are, and that life is so much sweeter because they are along for the ride too.

PEN15 for like you freaks. I will love you forever.

Manifesting in Isolation

I’ve tried to start this entry a few different times but find myself avoiding this blog. I’ve really just taken these last 5 weeks to just exist. This is a new concept to me, going from a fast paced, busy life, to a quiet, isolated environment.  Using this time to really reflect on who I am and what role I play in this world has made me realize a lot about myself. This feeling of never doing “enough” has completely left me. I have surrendered to the universe telling me to slow down and started listening to what I need to be manifesting for myself.  There at times when we get this feeling that we aren’t accomplishing anything to we must be failing but though you may not be accomplishing what others are, you are still in progress of accomplishing things for yourself. Nesting

Nesting. You hear it all the time. A term used by mostly Mom’s to refer it as the urge to clean and organize to prepare for your new baby. I am 6 months pregnant and have hit “nesting mode”. I need to clean out my closet which I have already done twice this year. The problem with the first time is I cleaned it out to create space for the smaller closet I moved into, once I start living with my then boyfriend and now husband. The second time was because I couldn’t find anything and felt like I had nothing to wear. This third time is a mix of I still can’t find anything to wear and then realization that I am not ever going to wear this.  I found myself in bed the other night getting spammed by cute boutique dresses on Instagram.
